Chandler High linebacker Kurt Mangum gave Washington a commitment Wednesday night to play football. Hell sign Feb. 6, giving the Wolves four players headed to the Pac-10. The others are tight end/wide receiver Dion Jordan (Oregon), defensive back Harold Bernard (Stanford) and defensive back Marc Anthony (California). Lieberman backs McCain but won't be VP
WASHINGTON — Sen. Joe Lieberman, an independent who nearly won the vice presidency as a Democrat in 2000, says there's no way he'll be Republican Sen. John McCain's running mate should McCain become the party's presidential nominee. "No, I'd tell him: 'Thanks, John, I've been there, I've done that. You can find much better,' " Lieberman said Tuesday at his Senate office. "I'm not seeking anything else." The Connecticut senator said he was unequivocally ruling out sharing the GOP ticket with McCain. Lieberman's endorsement of McCain in December and the campaigning he has done in New Hampshire, Michigan, South Carolina, Florida and other states have stoked speculation that the Arizona senator might choose Lieberman as his running mate should McCain win the nomination. Lieberman was Democrat Al Gore's running mate in 2000.

The State of Journalism: We’re Killin’ All the Bees
Where does content come from, Mommy? Well, sweetheart, the Content Fairy comes at night and sprinkles content over all the good little Web sites. Yeah, right. I knew journalism was in trouble the first time I heard that word, "content." Up until then, I was a reporter, writing stories, getting the news out, telling truth to power, tilting at dragons, righting the occasional wrong, sometimes misquoting someone - you know, all the usual stuff. Then, all of a sudden, I was a "content provider." It was just like when "sales" (which had a human component - after all, you have to sell to someone) turned into the impersonal "marketing." I believe that journalism is a calling. It's like teaching, healing and entering a convent. Maybe us nascent journalists start out as gossips or tattletales in high school, but the best of us evolve into reporters who can spot interesting changes in the social fabric a mile away, do the research, digest a lot of complicated information, and write it clearly and concisely.

NBC is as complicit in Bush's warmongering as any of the other media kingpins, btw, so they're only trying to maintain consistency by pulling the plug on anyone with the audacity to stand up and say what we're doing in Iraq, and elsewhere, are impeachable crimes, or that health care should be universal and single-payer, or anything else DK tries to say.
