| Woodbridge teacher charged in sex assault
MIDDLESEX COUNTY A Woodbridge middle school gym teacher was arrested Tuesday and charged with sexual assault and official misconduct after police found him in a pickup truck in a township park with a 17-year-old student, authorities said. On Sunday, Woodbridge police officer Dennis Benigno saw two suspicious vehicles in a dark section of Merrill Park. Benigno found Craig Yarnall, 37, of Colonia in a 2006 Dodge Ram with the teenage girl, authorities said. Investigators learned that Yarnall, a former girl's junior varsity soccer coach at Colonia High School, had been having sexual relations with the girl since April, when she was 16, Assistant Middlesex County Prosecutor Christie Bevacqua said. No other details were released about the girl to protect her identity.

At Elite Prep Schools, College-Size Endowments
EXETER, N.H. When Curtis Thomas, a 14-year-old from a poor family living in St. Rose, La., arrived here two years ago to attend Phillips Exeter Academy, he brought little more than a pair of jeans and two shirts. That would hardly do at a 227-year-old prep school where ties are still required for boys in class. .

ORU alumni support sought
Uncertainty remained Saturday about what effect Richard Roberts' resignation as president will have on Oral Roberts University, but some observers said it was a step toward improvement. "I think people are going to be waiting and watching: OK, can it survive without a Roberts at the helm?" said Donald R. Vance, professor of biblical languages and literature. Vance said he thinks alumni need to support ORU as it undergoes this transition, after being led for 42 years by a Roberts. ORU professors are committed to the school's evangelical Christian mission, but that might not be obvious without a TV minister as president, he said. Christian colleges across the country are led by non-ministers -- "it will just be different for us." ORU leaders have not addressed what role, if any, Roberts will have at the university.
Budgeting for Alaska's future
I played baseball when I was a kid--I took the field with a Nelly Fox glove and tight pants that ended just below the knees where long stirrup stockings connected the pants to supple black leather shoes with rubber cleats. That was a long time ago. Chicago infielder Nelly Fox lingers only in the minds of baseball fans above the age of 50 and most players' pants now go all the way to their Nikes. Back then, like now, we also had our field chatter. "Hey, batta, hey batta" and "pitcher's got a rubba arm" were institutionalized chants we thought intimidated batters or rattled pitchers. Those and other rote chants took us far beyond any of the cerebral elements of one of America's top two pastimes. The other American pastime, politics, also has its chatter that gets in the way of any cerebral approach to policy.
Spotlight: Dance Showcase
Most of the senior choreography showcases at Valley View High School in Moreno Valley are between 10 and 20 minutes for each student, but for some of the choreographers the performance has taken four years of preparation. "I've been planning this since I was a freshman," said Cassie Buffington, whose showcase will explore dance on TV. The showcase is also set to include salsa, lyrical, hip-hip, jazz, several pieces from "Hairspray," and other forms of dance. Also participating will be seniors Schuyler Gage, Cyntoria Lampkin and Carrie Martin. .
