Monday wild card

I try to keep up with the blog, but I'm not going to sit here and pretend to know what I'm talking about when it comes to Gozzer Ranch yacht wars or Marty Fortier.

I'm doing this in addition to other work, so I'm not able to spend much time crusing around looking for things to post.

And so - your help this week is crucial to keeping the blog flowing. Don't be shy about suggesting items to post, and please don't worry about insulting my intelligence or whatever by explaining at length why a particular post is noteworthy. This is your community, after all. Drop me a line at kenp@spokesman.com.

In Nevada, Obama's message of 'new politics' failed to deliver

Example #1 comes from Michigan, where John McCain last week told the truth when he said that many of the formerly great Michigan industrial jobs will never come back. Romney, on the other hand, sucked up and told everyone they will. I call B.S. on that. Joe blow American can't handle the truth that the halycon days of the 50s are over for good in this global economy and Romney wins big time.

Example #2 comes from the Obama campaign. In the Nevada debate he was asked about his biggest weakness. Hmmm, do we all have weaknesses? Last time I checked we do. Well, he tells the truth and says he's not the greatest with paperwork. Edwards, on the other hand, says his biggest weakness is that "he cares too much". Hillary adds that her biggest weakness is that she gets too impatient with the speed of change.

OSU fans take sides on ticket issue

The school's decision not to sell single-game Bedlam football tickets generates fan debates.

OSU's season-ticket plan for the 2008 football season was met with mixed reviews by fans Tuesday.

OSU has decided not to sell single-game Bedlam tickets for the Nov. 29 game at Boone Pickens Stadium. Instead, to witness the game, fans must be season-ticket holders.

A basic season ticket, which includes seven home games, is priced at $419.

Zack Livingston, a 1996 OSU graduate, plans to move to the Tulsa area this summer from Kansas City. He is excited about purchasing Cowboys season tickets and is looking at buying a Family Fun Zone package in the stadium's newly expanded west end zone. Livingston's excitement, though, is not universal with the Cowboys' fan base.

Legislation could protect children, teens from predators online

ALBANY, N.Y. - Senate Republican leader Joseph Bruno and Attorney General Andrew Cuomo say they will soon announce agreement on a new law that would protect kids from predators on social networking sites like MySpace.com.

They say Democratic Assembly Speaker Sheldon Silver will also support the legislation.

Earlier this month, MySpace.com agreed to take more steps to protect children and teens from online sexual predators and bullies.

Rodriguez's agent responds to document-shredding allegations

I guess this is what one would call retaliation. I find this whole process fascinating. I hate to stereotype a whole state here but this reminds me of a really bitter divorce and West Virginia fans are acting like Pi$$y little B^%@#s. Hell hath no furry like a Mountaineer fan scorned.

Tech 'Solutions' Your Small Biz Can't Use

I just grew a little peach fuzz. Using my frequent-flier miles has always been a huge frustration, except for that one time I flew to Fargo, N.D., on a Saturday night in February. Baked potato chips? They taste like wood.

Unfortunately, the disappointment extends well beyond consumer products. My life as a small business owner has been littered with stuff that doesn't work as billed, particularly technology. We business owners are subjected to an endless array of tools that never fail to disappoint. We're promised. We pay. And we're let down. The list of overhyped and underwhelming technology changes constantly. So here's a quick snapshot of 10, in no particular order, that don't work. At least this week.

MLK Day ceremony honors Gov. Crist

On a day set aside for a civil rights legend, Miamians honored Gov. Charlie Crist for his support of the family of Martin Lee Anderson, the black teenager who died in a North Florida boot camp.

Hundreds turned out Monday morning for the 15th annual Martin Luther King Jr. Unity Breakfast at Jungle Island in Miami. The event is sponsored by 5000 Role Models of Excellence, a dropout intervention program for Miami-Dade's male students.

Crist called the accolades ''a humbling experience.'' In a brief speech, he praised Democratic and Republican lawmakers for civil rights reforms over the last two years, dating back to his term as attorney general.

''Even though we're proud of our parties, we work for our people first,'' Crist said.
