| Wiscasset Conservation, Historic Boards Sought
An adhoc historic preservation commission received support from Wiscasset selectmen Tuesday to move ahead with plans for formalizing it, and a conservation commission is also under consideration for a vote in June.
Both commissions are a recommendation of the new town comprehensive plan that now has both local and state approval for the first time ever, Town Planner Jeff Hinderliter told the board.
The ad hoc historic preservation commission the board authorized in September wants to continue meeting to draft an historic preservation ordinance for voters' consideration on the annual town meeting referendum ballot.
The ordinance would establish a commission, identify one or more historic districts, determine the tools it will use to protect buildings and sites within the districts, and investigate the benefits of "certified local government" status and/or participation in the Main Street Maine program.
Sony Launches Vaio NR Notebooks
SAN DIEGO — Sony Electronics has introduced its Vaio NR series, a line of entry-level notebook PCs with suggested retails starting at about $750. According to the company, this is the lowest-priced laptop it has ever introduced. This news follows the company's introduction last week of a limited-edition series of Vaio notebooks with covers designed by artist Maya Hayuk. The NR series models feature 15.4-inch widescreen LCD displays and come pre-installed with Microsoft Windows Vista Home Premium. All models are also equipped with built-in 802.11 a/b/g wireless capability, and select models feature an Intel Core 2 Duo processor. Other features include: preloaded LocationFree software that allows users to access one's personal video recorder or DVD player and vie such content on the notebook via the Web; a built-in DVD and CD burner and included Click to DVD software; four USB ports and ExpressCard, SD card and Memory Stick Pro slots; and a suite of software applications for importing, viewing and cataloging digital images.

Four youths sought as B.C. teen set on fire
BURNABY, B.C. - A New Westminster, B.C., teenager was doused with gasoline and set on fire Monday night, police said Tuesday. "It's frightening something like this could happen but things have been getting worse around here for the last year," said Terri Roberts, who lives close to where the attack occurred. Roberts heard a commotion just before 10 p.m. "I would have gone outside because I've broken fights up before, but it just sounded like the noise kids make. We have a lot of trouble with kids around here - drinking and doing drugs - so the noise didn't sound out of the ordinary," said Roberts. .
Midwest resorts excel in ski lessons
On a clear winter Saturday morning in the Midwest, thousands of first-time skiers and snowboarders snap into their bindings as lessons get under way at the more than 100 ski resorts in the region.
That Midwest binding click is also music to the ears of ski resorts elsewhere in the country. "Midwestern resorts and their learn-to-ski-and-ride efforts are the unheralded foot soldiers in the snow business," says Andy Bigford, editor and publisher of Vail (Colo.) Resorts' Peak magazine. "In fact, the Chicago area is the second largest market for Vail resorts' five mountains."
With the advent of shorter, shaped skis and carpet lifts (like people movers at airports), people who want to learn to ski or snowboard have a plethora of options at Midwest resorts.

I would appear that Foxy Brown is still making some moves while she is in jail. I'm hearing Foxy has decided to make changes to her album from inside the beast. First of all, I am hearing she didn't like her album cover and there are going to be some changes on that front. I also heard there will be changes to the music. Rumor has it, Foxy felt some kind of way about releasing an album without her brothers. I heard Gavin is on board to produce some songs and she will be doing a remix to "We're On Fire."
