Shopping to help the economy is just so, you know, stimulating
We'll use the rebate checks for that credit-card debt, right? Though the accrued interest means we'll come up a little short. Am I the only one queasy when thinking about yet another reactionary solution to yet another stock-market slowdown? The House last week passed along a plan that would give $600 to people making at least $35,000 a year, with another $300 for each kid in a family, whether one or two people head the family. Americans who make a lot more or less than $35,000 a year would get different amounts, though unmarried individuals who make more than $100,000 might not get anything. This week, the Senate will churn out its version and it seems pretty likely that millions of Americans will get a check sometime this spring, though no one knows for sure when — the IRS already will be busy mailing out regular tax refunds.
Coming Soon: SR to Release E-mail Exchanges ... (Not so fast...)
Friday at IHOP. In response to any question about Your Huckleberries Hound, he's been instructed to respond: Dave, who? Or, how about them e-mails? *I almost missed this one: Poynter Online posted a story recently that I missed re: whether this blog, and the SR did U.S. Sen. Larry Craig a disservice by posting unsubstantiated allegations by gay activist Mike Rogers that Craig is gay. Rogers has never backed up the claims he made on a national radio program, and the story died. You can read the Poynter post here. *A Berry Picker re: HBO's use of the term KCSO for the sheriff's office: It hasnt been KCSO since Pierce Clegg was in office. Kootenai County Sheriffs Department. KCSD. (DFO: Oops ... How about KCPC: Kootenai County Porn Central?) *Spectator re: Steve Smith's confirmation of the expense to pursue the Douglas/Kalani email trail: That's exactly why the CDA Press will never break stories like these.
McCain Wins Florida Republican Primary, To Get Giuliani Endorsement
US POLITICS: U.S. Senator John McCain of Arizona says his victory in Tuesday's Florida Republican presidential primary election gives his campaign momentum heading into next week's multi-state primaries and caucuses. McCain handily defeated Massachusetts Governor Mitt Romney after a hard-fought battle to win that state's 57 delegates. The victory positions McCain as the leading candidate heading into the so-called "Super Tuesday" contests on February fifth, when primaries and caucuses will be held in more than 20 states. .

Dear Abby: Instead of rental references, he's got preferences for sex
DEAR ABBY: I'm a middle-aged man who has been married for 20 years. I own a duplex in a nice neighborhood. Last week, I put an ad in the paper and a 21-year-old woman came to look at the upstairs apartment. The problem is, I found her attractive and had sex with her downstairs while my wife was not home. What should I do? - Couldn't Help Myself in New York DEAR COULDN'T HELP YOURSELF: While you were checking the woman out, did you also check her references? If the answer is no, you should hasten to your doctor to be checked for every STD known to man and woman, because you not only had unprotected sex with a stranger, but with one who would ALSO have sex with a stranger. DEAR ABBY: My son, "Larry," has lost his driver's license until the case can go to court.
