Yousuf and Malik joined forces with the score at 66 for two.

Zimbabwe, who won the toss, were unable to put the Pakistani bowlers under any real pressure despite an enterprising third-wicket stand of 85 between Williams (48) and Tatenda Taibu (51). Continued...

Turnout a big surprise for caucus organizers

Caucus site co-manager Sally Wylie realized the turnout would far exceed expectations Saturday when Republican participants were lined up outside St. Gall Pastoral Center in Gardnerville in 21-degree weather.

"We set up for 150; we have at least twice that here," said Wylie, dressed in red, white and blue set off by a sequined vest.

At Carson Valley Middle School, Democrats ran out of ballots as about 400 mid-town Gardnerville residents packed the multipurpose room.

At both locations, precinct captains and candidate representatives tried to outshout each other as participants figured out how to proceed in Nevada's early caucus.

Seth Littlefield, 79, sat alone at the Democrats' "Uncommitted" table.

"When you're undecided, you're really alone.

Grammy nod is rooted in Verona band

Verona native Ryan Truesdell hoped to put together a 14-piece jazz orchestra in New York City to perform his music before next summer. But a few things have gotten in the way. Like:

- A commission to write music for standout trumpeter Ingrid Jensen and the jazz band of the U.S. Air Force Band of the Pacific.

- Preparations for an upcoming European tour by the acclaimed Maria Schneider big-band jazz orchestra, which he's helping to coordinate.

Election update: Leon County rejects tax proposal

My biggest thing is he offers unity," Johnson said.

They were joined at about 6 p.m by two John McCain supporters, Edward Howard and Lawrence Brown.

"He doesn't go and vote the party line," Howard said. "He does what he thinks is right."Updated 5:25 p.m.

A "steady turnout" of voters at the polls gives Secretary of State Kurt Browning cause to hope for better-than-average turnout in today's presidential primary.

"Obviously we're going to beat our 20 percent that we had in 2004," Browning told reporters this afternoon in Tallahassee.

So far, so good, he said, saying Florida's voting problems today are limited to "isolated pockets" and were mostly minor, such as paper jams in optical scan machines.

The Wire Tap: Julito McCullum

Diehard fans of The Wire were a little shocked when Namond Brice, son of Barksdale clan hitman Wee-Bey, took measures to step away from the drug game he was born into in Season 4.

With doe-eyed passiveness, Namond lied to his mother about pushing drugs to avoid her constant banter about living up to his father's name, but eventually the truth came out. While his mother was overtaken with bitter disappointment, it didn't stop the teen from holding tight to his own dream for a better future. In the end, Namond went to live with ex-police Major Bunny Colvin.

Akin to his character Namond, actor Julito McCullum is soft spoken and endearing, and he has a productive plan for his life. Much like his castmate Jermaine Crawford (Dukie), Julito is also a triple threat performer.

Resigned editorial page editor Andres Martinez says the paper's newly-arrived editor and publisher

caved to a disgruntled newsroom that is annoyed at [the paper's owners in] Chicago, annoyed at them and annoyed at the autonomy of the opinion pages.

The newsroom unrest, Martinez says, is partly "ideological" (the news pages presumably being more conventionally liberal than his editorial page), partly "a matter of bureaucratic culture," and

some of it a personnel matter (there are some embittered former editorial board members that Kinsley and Carroll sent off to the newsroom).
