Misadventures in Atlanta

I'm yet to have the full chat with them. I'm waiting until we move home and get settled in. This is my life to live and my choices I have one go around at living it to best I can. And with him I'm at my best. So with that, they can either accept it and deal or let it go.

In how he lives his life, treats me and others, and gives back in all the ways he can: shall be of greater value than pushing church on him.

Moliere pleads guilty in school board bribery case

Perez, a segregationist who had become rich subletting state mineral lands, insisted that Louisiana was entitled to all energy industry fees extending as far as 37 miles from shore, a whimsical boundary critics derided as "Leander's meander." Truman said no, and the state squandered a 37.5 percent cut of more than $160 billion the U.S. Treasury has collected since.

The quest to correct Perez's mistake came to fruition Saturday about 1:50 a.m., when the Senate, as the clock ticked toward adjournment, approved a package the House had passed just hours earlier. It allows new drilling in the Gulf and gives Louisiana and three other Gulf Coast states a share of the royalties.

The story of how Louisiana managed to turn history around is one of maddening legislative near-misses, political perseverance and good timing.

Stories aspire to comic book greatness

We wake every morning to the reassurance of knowing who we are. When Colin Boyd looks into a store window on an average day and sees a stranger's face, this reassurance is destroyed. In a heartbeat, he's become a man with nothing but the name Grant Borrows and an ancient ring that won't come off his finger.

Worse yet, someone is trying to kill him.

Grant must race against the clock to discover the truth. As he digs deeper into the past, he finds more than he ever imagined. He's part of a master plan that's either for the greatest good or the darkest evil. As he runs from assassins and the authorities, Grant slowly realizes that he's changing into something else, and only time will tell what that will be.

Robin Parrish's first work is of impressive complexity.

JPS to monitor workers' health

His eyes were closed. Gracefully, William Hathorn moved his left hand through the air.

For several minutes, the Orchard View High School student seemed oblivious to the bemused stares of his classmates. Temporarily forgotten were the everyday stresses of school work, parental expectations and a desire to be socially accepted.

Hathorn was in a deep state of hypnosis.

"I felt really relaxed ... calm," Hathorn admitted after he was awakened from the trance-like state. "I really didn't want to leave. I wanted to stay there."

Hathorn and several other students enrolled in OV's "Abnormal Psychology" class volunteered to be hypnotized so they and their classmates could learn more about the subject. Hypnosis can be used to treat a broad variety of ailments, ranging from stress and anxiety to smoking and weight loss, said Muskegon area hypnotist Rick Wheeler, who spoke to teacher Marvin Bolthouse's students last week.

I'm not trying to sell them anything else," she said. "A lot of people are not aware of these services or of the benefits."

Or worse, she said, an amateur has tried to perform a service on someone, caused them pain and turned them off to the whole experience.

"There's a right way to do it so you're not hurting someone," she said.

Vanderpol is a licensed esthetician, certified in chemical peels, eyelash extensions, microderm abrasion and waxing. Some of those services take time, but they also save her clients time.
