| Time to ditch the waterbed
Hugh Hefner might have cornered the market for seventies chic, but some of things regarded as indispensable to the lifestyle he epitomised could keep you childless. Medallions, tight trousers, a waterbed and a spliff the size of a lifeboat: all things regarded as indispensable to that oh-so-retro seventies look. Movies like Starsky & Hutch, Boogie Nights, Anchorman and the Austin Powers flicks have brought back a nostalgia for the era of shaggy rugs and shaggy haircuts only seen in high school yearbooks and country and western festivals. .
LSU Humbles Ohio State, Wins BCS Title Game
No. 2 LSU 38, No. 1 Ohio State 24 No. 2 LSU danced, dodged and darted its way into the end zone Monday night, turning the BCS national championship game into a horrible replay for No. 1 Ohio State. It was over early, with Matt Flynn throwing four touchdown passes in a 38-24 win. Playing at their home-away-from-home in the Big Easy, LSU (12-2) became the first two-loss team to play for the title. Shouts of "SEC! SEC!" bounced around the Superdome as the Tigers won their second BCS crown in five seasons. They are the first school to win a second title since BCS rankings began with the 1998 season. And in a season of surprises, this was hardly an upset: Ohio State once again fell apart in college football's biggest game. A year after the Buckeyes were routed by Tim Tebow and Florida 41-14 in the Arizona desert, they barely did better.

But cut delays in buying defence items
Despite a steady rise in the tax collections and an over-all improvement in the states fiscal condition, the government must not have extended the tax relief to the urban rich. A steep rise in the real estate prices has tremendously benefited the urban property owners in the recent past and the government could have even raised the house tax to generate additional income for the civic bodies, which are starved of funds. A recent survey by an NGO, Participatory Research in Asia, highlighted the dismal condition of the municipalities in Haryana. Low revenue collections, flawed account-keeping practices, poor governance and rampant political interference have hampered the functioning of the civic bodies. Any further dent into their already limited sources of income is bound to hit their development works.
McCain cements hold on GOP lead
John McCain's decisive victory in the biggest state to vote so far turned him into an instant front-runner and delivered a ''take-that'' message to naysayers who question the iconoclastic Arizona senator's acceptance by the Republican establishment. ''An all-Republican primary!'' were the triumphant first words of his victory speech in Florida, alluding to previous victories in states where independent voters pushed him over the top. After weeks of polls that showed a race too close to call, McCain defeated his chief rival, Mitt Romney, by distorting his position on the war in Iraq and savaging him for changing positions on abortion and other issues. Their acrimony overshadowed one-time front-runner Rudy Giuliani, who bet his entire campaign on Florida but came in third and is now expected to throw his support to McCain.
