| Councilman MikeK Recalls Knievel Action Figure
My interest is in Kootenai County and what is happening in our neighborhoods and at our courts. It seems that there is very little coverage of our area by your paper anymore, not what I am wanting to purchase daily. I have conferred with others and they are upset also. Please advise if this is a permanent change and if it is, all I have spoken with will be canceling their subscriptions too. Sad for all/Jacqui. Answer: In response to complaints about the disappearance of the Idaho public records in our newspaper, we're working on a solution. We believe we'll be able to publish them in our weekly zoned editions -- the Handle Extra and the Post Falls Voice. Please bear with us as we work on the details of getting the information published again/Gary Graham, managing editor .

He wraps it in a piece of white paper and slides it across the counter to an elderly Navajo man. Hunt's home and slaughterhouse sit on the bank of the Shumway Arroyo here in northwest New Mexico, about 15 miles west of Farmington. Just a few miles upstream, the smokestacks of the San Juan Generating Station, one of the largest coal-fired power plants in the United States, tower over the barren desert. "They'll completely destroy your whole goddamned life," he says, gesturing in the direction of the power plant. Hunt hardly fits the profile of an environmentalist. After all, he kills sheep for a living (he specializes in mutton) and spouts politically incorrect aphorisms - he once compared divorcing his wife to shooting his dog. But when he's not supplying his customers with meat, he and a handful of allies are locked in fierce battle with the power plant and its owner.
Cramer's 'Mad Money' Recap: Disciples of Discipline
Watch TV, Get Rich. Although people might not like "Cramer the disciplinarian," he said his new book, which has 20 brand-new rules, should prevent market players from losing money. And because Cramer's aim is to help make people rich, he went on to explain five of those new rules. Cramer's first new rule is, "There's a market for everything; pay attention to how it works." Investors need to remember that there are lots of different reasons why stocks are traded in a stock market and that there are submarkets, he said. Although it makes "total intuitive sense," most people rarely keep in mind when investing that there's a market for oil stocks, a market for newly public stocks and a market for small-cap value stocks, all of which are governed by supply and demand, Cramer said.
N.J. searches for way to make teen drivers safer
Joe Bartonek, 16, hopped into the white Chevrolet Cobalt and gripped the wheel at 10 and 2. It was a rainy weekday afternoon, and the Edison teen settled in for a lesson with his driving instructor on rights of way, lane changes and how to avoid hydroplaning. Bartonek hopes the practice will not only help him earn a license but also aid him in becoming a more complete driver, too. "I just want to be alert and do better," he said. Do better is exactly what experts and state officials want for all young motorists these days. Data has not painted a flattering picture of that demographic: According to the New Jersey Division of Highway Traffic Safety, car crashes are the No. 1 killer of teens. And while the state in 2001 enacted a graduated driver's license program restricting when and with whom 16- and 17-year-old teens can drive in an effort to reduce the number of tragedies, fatality figures have gone skyward.

Tradition underpins 'best' school
The school's score of 1090.5 meant they typically scored one and a half grades better than had been expected from their previous test results, compared with other pupils nationally. Head teacher Tony Leach said it had all been down to hard work by pupils and staff. He said Moreton was known locally as "the zoo on the hill" and was under threat of closure by Ofsted when he arrived seven years ago. As part of the transformation he got pupils themselves to choose a motto and crest. They adopted a highly traditional grammar school style, complete with a Latin motto: labor omnia vincit - hard work conquers all. This is likely to be music to the ears of the Prime Minister, Gordon Brown, who started something of a trend for recalling old school mottos after he took office citing his own, "I will try my utmost".

UBS hit by further $4bn writedown
The surprise announcement, coming ahead of the Swiss bank's annual results on February 14, means UBS will report a net group loss of about SFr4.4bn ($4bn) for 2007. UBS said the full-year loss, which it had signalled when disclosing initial fourth-quarter subprime writedowns of $10bn last month, stemmed from additional losses on its portfolios in recent weeks and a very weak trading period in the fixed income, currencies and commodities division of its investment bank. The latest writedowns take to $18bn the total UBS has lost in 2007 on its large holdings in US mortgage-related securities, including $4bn of writedowns reported in the third quarter. The bank, once renowned for its caution and rigorous controls, surprised investors last year after it emerged that it held more than $40bn in subprime-related paper through positions taken by Dillon Read Capital Management, its now-closed internal hedge fund, and its conventional fixed income trading activities.
