Jim Skelly: The fees are usually the first item looked at for school funding issues, at least in our district. We're looking [in Lakeville] at raising them to at least $230 per student for participation [in a high school sport] across the board and $175 dollars at the middle school level, which is very difficult to swallow. There's kind of a balancing act between the fee and what that might do to participation numbers, because we want kids involved with athletics. So, it's kind of a balancing act between helping to fund the programs and also being able to raise fees so we can continue on. I remember when I was in high school, I think it was $25. It's changed quite a bit over the last couple decades, and that's going to be a continued hot-button issue. Al Frost: Our fee [in Minneapolis] is 60 bucks.
Kenosha teen moves on to Hollywood
KENOSHA, Wis. - A high school senior from Kenosha will follow her dream to Hollywood.Seventeen-year-old Angelica Puente performed on American Idol last night and got the nod from Randy Jackson, Paula Abdul and Simon Cowell to go to the next round.Puente's performance was taped during her audition in Omaha, Nebraska.Jackson told Puente to start developing her own style. Abdul told her not to let her nerves get in the way of her performance.Puente's personal story was also part of the show. She told the judges that she has not always seen eye to eye with her father Jesse. She even lived with her grandparents for awhile. .

Forcing Damascus out of Syria would put increased pressure on the already shaky Syrian economy, which survives in large part thanks to the resources it is able to siphon off from Lebanon, thanks to its occupation of the country. According to the source in Israel, there has been a major debate going on in both Jerusalem and Washington which country to target first, Syria or Iran. Supporters of the former course say that Syria, very much the junior partner of the Teheran-Damascus axis, is more vulnerable to pressure, and this increases the chances of being able to get Syria to renounce its alliance with Teheran without having to resort to military force. Such an outcome would spell the death knoll for the Iraqi insurgence, which could not survive without the logistical and financial support Syria has been providing.

Here are my random thoughts while I'm watching the VMA pre-show. Hopefully some of you are watching along and will post your comments too... 7:17: Glad Nick Lachey decided to get dressed up with his Hanes undershirt. (Is he the newest celeb in those "Look who we got our Hanes on now" ads?) But with those baby blues, does it even matter what he's wearing? Not so much. 7:18: Kurt Lowder still works for MTV? Didn't he like found that channel or something? 7:24: Marilyn Monroe , Gwen Stefani, Christina Aguilera arrived! I love watching the girls try to get out of the superhigh SUVs in their tight dresses. Better them than me. 7:29: Jennifer Lopez looks like a mummy -- wrapped head to toe. Truth be told, she is so glam. I could never pull most of that off.
